APIA: New Car Sales Up Over 17% In January-June 2017

„Europe witnesses a slowdown in the growth rate of new car sales. Thus, the first half of 2017 saw a general increase of +4.7%. The largest markets (which together cover nearly 3/4 of total EU member states), except Great Britain (-1.3%), continue to stay in positive territory, seeing the following evolution, after the first six months: France +3%, Germany +3.1%, Italy +8.9%, Spain +7.1%”, APIA said in a statement.

In the first half of 2017, new car sales in Romania were, as in the previous years, backed by acquisitions by legal entities, accounting for 66% of total sales (34% natural persons).

Over 253,300 used cars (nearly 84% of the volume for the whole of 2016) have been registered in the first six months of 2017, 5.6-fold more than new cars.

According to APIA, Ford Romania and Roman SA totalled 28,970 units in the first six months of 2017, 24% more than in the year-earlier period, and the bulk (28,925 units) were exported (+24%).

21.4% more vehicles were delivered in June 2017 than in May, which led to a total 71,603 units in the first half of 2017, namely, 17.1% more than in the same period in 2016.

Vehicles, which account for 82% of total sales in the first half of 2017 (58,967 units), saw an increase of 21.7% compared with the same period a year before, while commercial vehicles (freight and passengers) fell 0.5%.

By car brands, the ranking is led by local Dacia, with 19,696 units, followed by Volkswagen, with 7,366 units, Renault with 5,492 units, Ford with 5,332 units and Skoda with 5,233 units.

By car models, with 7,179 units sold, Dacia Logan is the best-selling model in the first six months of 2017, followed by Dacia Sandero with 4,555 units, Dacia Duster with 3,402 units, Skoda Octavia with 2,227 units and Renault Clio, with 1,767 units.
