Flood First, Vacation Second For Public Admin Staff – Romanian Pres
Romanian President Traian Basescu on Monday requested vacationing personnel with the public administration in the areas affected by floods is to return to their posts and help counter flood damages.
Basescu said the worst hit regions will see severe social and infrastructure damages.
“I’ve seen desperate people and local administration that are incomplete due to vacationing personnel,” Basescu said, mentioning no blame is to be placed for this situation.
“The feeling of despair is profound,” Basescu said, adding the flood victims need as much encouragement as they can get.
The head of state called for solidarity with people from the affected regions.
Four people died and thousands others have been evacuated in northeastern Romania after severe storms and floods over the past few days.
The Romanian authorities extended Monday the high risk floods warning for the rivers Siret and Prut at the borders with Ukraine and Moldova. The flood advisory is valid until Tuesday afternoon.
