Geoana To Challenge Dismissal As Senate Chairman At Constitutional Court

Mircea Geoana said Wednesday he will challenge with the Constitutional Court the Romanian Senate’s decision to remove him from the office of Senate chairman.

Geoana was removed earlier Wednesday from the office of Senate President, after being expelled from the Social Democratic Party.

The Senate plenum approved the termination of Geoana's term as chairman with 112 votes for, two votes against and five abstentions.

The Senate's Standing Bureau has appointed Petru Filip, of the Democratic Liberal Party, as acting president of the house.
