Iasi University Senate Member Resigns in Protest at Former Justice Minister Resuming Office

Vasile Cotiuga, a lecturer at the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University in Iasi, resigned from university’s Senate on Thursday in protest against former Justice Minister Tudorel Toader resuming his previous office as a rector.

“I handed in my resignation today because I consider that the return of Mr. Tudorel Toader is not very correct towards the Cuza Univeristy, the academic community. He shouldn’t have resumed his office after the multitude of negative aspects during his time as a minister,” said the lecturer.

Cotiuga was appointed as member of the Iasi University Senate in June 2018.

Former Justice Minister Tudorel Toader resumed his previous role as Iasi University rector in April, when he resigned from the cabinet role after he lost political support from the ruling Social Democrat Party. Toader served as the country’s justice minister between February 2017 and April 2019.
