Over 1,600 Romanian Citizens Repatriated To Romania In 2010

According to data released by the Romanian Interior Ministry, 591 Romanian citizens were repatriated from France in 2010. Most repatriation decisions targeted illegal migration from Romania and beggary (140 cases), illegal migration and theft (about 120 cases), illegal migration from Romania and for exceeding the legal residence period (84 cases).

Italy expelled to Romania 350 Romanian citizens, mainly for illegal migration and theft (42 cases) and prostitution (15 cases).

Belgium sent back to Romania 260 citizens for illegal migration and theft (63) and for exceeding the legal residence period (48).

Denmark repatriated 121 Romanian citizens in the first half of 2010, followed by the UK (72), Germany (65) and Greece (36). Portugal repatriated only one Romanian citizen, Poland two and Ireland three.

In 2010, 18 European states have sent back to Romania a total of 1,625 Romanian citizens, of whom three teenagers, based on readmission agreements.

On the other hand, 17 other countries with which Romania signed readmission agreements, namely Slovakia, Slovenia, India, Bulgaria, the Republic of Moldova, Croatia, Albania, Latvia, Norway, Luxembourg, Lebanon, Turkey, Macedonia, Lithuania, Estonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Switzerland, repatriated no Romanian citizen in 2010.

The Interior Ministry said Romanian citizens are expelled from EU member states if the offences they committed on those states' territories represent public safety threats.
