    Romania January Indus Sales -11% On Month, +25.5% On Year

    Romanian industrial sales fell 11% on the month in January, but were up 25.5% from the year-ago period, the country’s statistics institute INS said Tuesday.

    Sales in the manufacturing industry declined 11.1% in January from a month earlier, whiles sales in the mining industry were down 9% on the month.

    On an annual basis, sales in the manufacturing industry rose 27.4% in January, the data showed. However, mining sales decreased by 3.2% on the year.

    By sector, sales in the intermediate goods industry were up 42% on the year in January, while sales in the energy and capital goods industries increased by 26.9% and 28.6% respectively.

    Industrial sales in the durable consumer goods sector rose 12.4% in January compared with the same month a year earlier, while consumer goods sales were up 4.9% on the year.

    In 2010, Romanian industrial sales rose 12% on the year, largely fueled by a 13% increase in the manufacturing sector.
