Romanian Commissioner For Multilingualism Leonard Orban Ponders Career Decisions

Romanian EU Commissioner for Multilingualism Leonard Orban told MEDIAFAX in an interview that he wishes he could have a second mandate as EU commissioner, but also admits that he has more options, adding that he hesitates to enter Romania’s political scene.

Orban said he regrets not having a five-year mandate as European commissioner, adding that thus he could have enriched the multilingualism policy.

Asked why his name is not among those of potential future EU commissioners proposed by Romania, Orban said that he was sent to Brussels by the former Government.
Orban didn't hide that fact that he would have liked a second mandate in the European Commission.
Asked about his future plans, Orban said he has more options, one of which is to enter the political scene, but he is dwelling on the matter.
Orban said he considers he has accomplished many things for Romania, adding that no one else has such competences now, which is normal, as he has been a member of the European Commission for some years.
He said he does not rule out the possibility of carrying on his activity in Brussels.
He also referred to Romania's problems, pointing to an image problem. Romania's objective to enter the Schengen Area in 2011 will be a difficult exam for the country, Orban said.
