Romanian Director Marian Crisan Bags Short Film Palme d’Or

After Romanian director Cristian Mungiu won the prestigious Palme d'Or for his “4,3,2” feature film last year, this year’s Cannes Festival brought the award to Romanian director Marian Crisan for the short film "Megatron".

"Megatron" is the story of an eight-year-old boy living with his mother in a village far from Bucharest. "It is the story of a boy celebrating his birthday at McDonald's. The film was shot especially outside Bucharest, and is a trip toward Bucharest,” Crisan said. The short film features only two characters: the boy, Maxim Trinu, and his mother, played by Gabriela Crisu.

Romania was also present in the Cannes Festival Short Film Corner with 14 short films, under the heading "Romanian Short Waves 2008".
