    Romanian President Designated Scientists Academy Honorary Member

    Romanian President Traian Basescu Thursday was designated honorary member of the Academy of Scientists in Romania (AOSR) by the institution’s General Assembly.

    AOSR honorary members are Romanian or foreign citizens that stand out through their scientific achievements or contributions to support the institution's activity.

    The proposition to grant Basescu the title of AOSR honorary member was made by AOSR president Vasile Candea.

    AOSR has 13 scientific departments and subsidiaries in Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Iasi, Piatra Neamt, Targoviste and Timisoara, and controls several research centers and institutes, as well as a publishing house.

    Former president Ion Iliescu is also an honorary member of the Academy of Scientists in Romania.
