    Romanian Youth Min To Chisel Away 40% Of Overall Staff

    Romanian youth and sports minister Sorina Placinta said Thursday that the ministry will be able to maintain its activity with 60% of the current number of employees countrywide, adding that the central apparatus will be cut to half.

    Placinta said in a press conference that there will remain up to 225 of the current 401 employees in the central apparatus of the ministry.

    She said the countrywide institutions subordinated to the ministry employ 4,646 people, of whom 1,000 work in the county youth directorates, adding that 60% of them “would be sufficient”.

    Placinta said the ministry wants to assign its funds more to youth and sport programs rather than to the large wage spending.

    She also said the manager of the National Complex “Lia Manoliu” will be replaced by someone within the ministry, as the respective manager did not get involved in supporting the complex, although the budget reached EUR3 billion.
