Vodafone: Romanian Smartphone Penetration Rate At 5%

Smartphone penetration in Romania is around 5%, compared with the worldwide penetration rate of 8%, higher figures being found in developed states, said Mihai Ghyka, head of Vodafone Romania's consumer business unit.

"For instance, in the UK, the penetration rate is expected to exceed 50%. In Western Europe, this figure is over 20%," said Ghyka in the forum ZF Digital '11.

Vodafone Romania is the second major player on the local mobile market, with almost 10 million clients. Its main competitors are Orange Romania, the market leader, and Cosmote Romania.
