Romanian foreign direct investment, or FDI, rose to EUR294 million in January to February, from EUR140 million in the same period a year earlier, the central bank said Wednesday.

Intra-group loans amounted to EUR267 million, while equity stakes (consolidated with estimated net loss) stood at to EUR27 million.

FDI entirely covered the country's current account deficit in the first two months.

Romania's current account deficit narrowed to EUR44 million in January-February, from a gap of EUR747 million in the year-earlier period, on a much lower trade deficit.
