Romanian Corruption-Indicted Senator Catalin Voicu Released From Arrest

Romanian social democrat senator Catalin Voicu, indicted and awaiting trial for corruption, has been released from prison after spending more than one year under arrest.

A panel of five judges with the High Court of Judges has allowed Voicu's release and has placed him under a travel ban. Voicu has been denied release three times so far.

Upon leaving prison, Voicu again denied any wrongdoing.

Voicu is expected to return to his senator seat in Parliament.

Voicu is indicted for influence peddling and forgery alongside a former Supreme Court judge and two businessmen.
