Romanian Govt Official Detained For Manslaughter

Prosecutors say that, on Friday evening, Platon's car hit a woman and her baby as they were crossing a street in the city of Cluj-Napoca. The victims were rushed to hospital, but the infant died Sunday.

Platon, prefect of Cluj County between 2008 and 2009, and currently a government inspector, is charged with negligent homicide and severe bodily harm by negligence. He was also found to have been driving illegally, as his license had been suspended for 90 days for speeding.
