Iohannis:On Easter, we will be with our loved ones but from a distance. There will be difficult weeks

President Klaus Iohannis announced on Friday that very difficult weeks would follow and that the number of deaths and serious cases of COVID-19 infection would be higher if the restrictions imposed by the authorities are not respected.

"It is a stage that through the restrictive measures taken in time we managed to delay it as much as possible. From now on, very difficult weeks follow, which will be critical for the health system in Romania. It is essential to be aware, because moments will come with a great emotional load, which will test our solidarity and unity. (...) We already have 116 dead, 116 fellows who lost their lives killed by this virus. (...) If we do not comply with the measures imposed by the authorities, the losses of life will be more and more and the cases will increase", said the president.

He argues that social spacing measures must remain in place until the danger of this virus passes.

Klaus Iohannis asks the Romanians to stay in their homes, and those in the diaspora to not return home for the holidays.

"The most important Christian holidays are approaching, of light, solidarity and kindness, which people naturally celebrate, year after year, with family, with those close to them. I appeal to the Romanians from diapora, but that fills me with sadness: do not come home this year for holidays, it is important to understand that returning to the country can be extremely dangerous for both you and those you appreciate. (...) We will be with our loved ones, but in the distance, we will make these painful sacrifices so we can be together again later. (...) It is a real drama for believers not to be able to go to Church, but this difficult time will pass and we will gather in churches with even more faith. There is no other way than to stay at home", the president said.
