Romanian President Traian Basescu said Wednesday on public radio that the media is spreading a “major lie,” namely that Romania is in a desperate situation, an idea he tried to disprove through his speech in Parliament Tuesday.

The President said that, although Romania is in a difficult situation, solutions do exist and the country is moving forward.

He pointed out that the timing of his speech is unrelated to the idea that Romania might sign a new loan agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
