Romania Ctrl Bank: Leu/Euro Exch Rate Stable, Free From Interventions

The Romanian leu’s stability against the euro is independent of the central bank’s interventions in the monetary market, central bank governor Mugur Isarescu said Monday.

"We haven't had a single intervention in the market in January," Isarescu told a news conference.

Isarescu dismissed media reports about the leu/euro exchange rate being artificially kept at stable levels, saying the central bank doesn't target a specific exchange rate of the national currency.

"The exchange rate is stable. It isn't artificial," he said.
