Romanian Consumer Prices Seen +0.5% In Feb, Annual Inflation Up To 7.3%

Romanian consumer prices are likely to increase by 0.5% on the month in February, while the annual inflation is seen climbing to 7.3%, according to a median forecast of the country’s association of financial and banking analysts AAFBR.

Romanian Consumer Prices Seen +0.5% In Feb, Annual Inflation Up To 7.3%

In January, the monthly increase was of 0.77%, but the annual inflation narrowed to 7%, on a positive base effect.

Analysts estimate a monthly inflation between 0.3% and 1.7% in February, while the annual rate expectations range between 6.5% and 7.5%.

AAFBR members revised upward their forecast on the year-end inflation to 4.5%, from 4.3% previously, which is above the central bank's target interval of 2%-4%.

Analysts' forecast vary between 4% and 5.2% for December 2011 inflation, while the 2012 inflation is seen falling towards 3.5% (with estimations ranging from 3.1% to 5%), the association said Monday in a statement.

AAFBR was founded in January 2008 and it includes more than 70 financial analysts.

The February inflation data are due to be released by the Romanian statistics institute INS on February 10.
