Romanian Foreign Min Asks Nuclear Authority For Regular Reports On Japan

Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi on Thursday asked the National Commission for the Control of Nuclear Activities to set up an emergency unit and report in every 12 hours on the situation in Japan.

The minister also said he will ask the Government to create a reserve fund of around EUR200,000, for the possible evacuation of Romanian citizens from Japan.

The Romanian consular authorities in Japan received 137 requests for assistance by Wednesday.

The Fukushima I nuclear power plant, located in the area hit by an earthquake and tsunami on Friday, has six reactors, which are currently thought to be very unstable.
