Romanian Govt To Urge Parliament To Adopt Statute Of National Minorities By End-June

The Romanian Government will call on the Parliament to approve the statute of national minorities by the end of June, according to the Government’s list of legislative priorities for 2012.

The statute of national minorities was rejected by the Senate and debates on the normative act have been stalled in the Chamber of Deputies for five years.

Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) vice-president Laszlo Borbely said last year UDMR leaders resumed talks on adopting the bill with ruling coalition partners.
