Romanian Leu Down 0.25% Vs Euro, Exch Rate At 4.2669 Units

The Romanian leu fell against the euro in mid-trade Friday, on a negative sentiment in the region, and the central bank announced a reference rate of 4.2669 units, 0.25% weaker than 4.2564 units a day before.

However, Romania's currency rose against the US dollar, and the indicative strenghtened a hefty 1.4% on the day to 3.1906 units, from 3.2350 units on Thursday.

The leu opened Friday at 4.2620/4.2630 to the euro, slightly weaker than 4.2610/4.2615 to the euro at previous closing.

It posted minor variations in early trade, but accelerated its decline towards mid-day on a negative sentiment in the regional markets.

The leu touched an early low at 4.2685 per euro, before gaining some ground to 4.2660/4.2675 per euro at around GMT1100.

On the money market, the overnight rates were slightly down at 2.1%-2.6% a year.
