Romanian President Designates Mihai Tudose for Prime Minister

Tudose served as economy minister in the six-month administration of Sorin Grindeanu, whose cabinet lost political support and was toppled last week in a no-confidence vote in Parliament.

The ruling coalition of the Social democratic Party and its ally ALDE claim they continue to hold majority in Parliament and proposed Tudose for prime minister, while opposition parties had no concrete propositions, nor any political agreement to form a different majority, said Iohannis.

“On the other hand, this political deadlock hurts the Romanian economy and this crisis must be defused quickly. We need a new government to fix issues left unsolved and issues arising from this very crisis,” said Iohannis.
