Court Denies Release To Romanian Senator Pending Corruption Trial

Voicu, under preventive arrest since late March 30 on charges of influence peddling and fraud, had asked to be released and placed under a travel ban instead. He may appeal the decision.

Voicu has been denied all requests for release under judicial control so far.

Mid-May last year, anticorruption prosecutors indicted Voicu, former judge Florin Costiniu and businessmen Costel Casuneanu and Marius Locic on charges of influence peddling and fraud. The other three defendants are tried at large.
