The head of the local electoral office in Ulmu commune, in the eastern Romanian county of Braila, was arrested for abuse of office and forgery after he allegedly helped a candidate win elections in the first round.

According to the spokesperson of the local police inspectorate, Jenel Sogor, police arrested electoral office head M. Emilian, 59, who modified the centralizing minute containing results from one polling station and one of the mayor seat candidates was declared a winner in the first round of elections.
The man was arrested for 29 days, Sogor said.
