“AIBA did not clear them of charges; it reduced their suspension to one year. Their suspension was reduced from life to one year. They were not declared innocent. If they were innocent, they would not have been suspended, but they are still suspended for one year. Our actions reduced their penalty. It was eased, but right now it cannot be said they are innocent," the president of the Romanian boxing federation, Rudel Obreja.

Late October 2007, AIBA announced that Bogdan Dinu, Ronald Gavril and Iulian Stan were banned for life from amateur boxing and sent home from the World Boxing Championships  held in Chicago, as they were caught trying to shoplift. Upon returning to the country, the three boxers said they are innocent and they are the victims of a misunderstanding.
