Over 100 vessels abandoned in the Danube Delta, mostly on the river’s Sfantu Gheorghe arm, will be taken to steel plants in the country within a cleaning program for the Delta.

The governor of the Delta reservation, Paul Cononov, said the costs for the operation amount to a maximum EUR2 million, and will be 90% covered by former owners of vessels and 10% by the Romanian government, as not all owners have been tracked down.
 
Romania’s Transport Ministry unfolded a similar program in 2003-2004.
