Preliminary Results: Independent Candidate Leads Elections For Bucharest Mayoralty

Independent Bucharest mayoralty candidate Sorin Oprescu leads the race with 30.12% of the votes, while democrat liberal Vasile Blaga got 29.56%, the Central Electoral Office said Wednesday after counting all the valid votes cast in the 1,181 polling stations in Bucharest.

Social democrat candidate Cristian Diaconescu secured 12.33% of the votes.

Although results in all polling stations have been centralized, they are still considered preliminary, as the city electoral office is expected to finish double-checking null ballots.
