Romania Housing Construction Down 4.5% In 1Q

Romanian housing construction slid 4.5% to 7,985 units in the first quarter from the year-earlier period, as builders broke ground on fewer new homes in urban areas, the country’s statistics institute INS said Thursday.

Construction of new homes and apartments in urban areas fell 17.3% on the year to 3,385 units in the first quarter, the data showed.

On the other hand, housing construction in rural areas increased about 9% to 4,240 units.

Of the total new homes and apartments built in the first quarter, 7,542 units were privately funded, while 83 units were financed from public funds.
