Romania Leu Extends Gains Vs Euro, Exch Rate At 4.2326

Romania’s leu widened early gains versus the euro in mid trade Monday and the central bank’s reference won nearly 0.3% on the day at 4.2326 units, from 4.2447 units Friday.

Against the US dollar, the leu's indicative strengthened 0.3% to 3.328 units.

The leu opened higher at 4.2415/4.2435 to the euro, from 4.2435/4.2445 at closing Friday, and further gained ground, tracking the currencies in the region.

At around GMT1000, the leu traded at 4.2315/4.2335 per euro, after hitting an intraday high of 4.227/4.229 per euro.

On the money market Monday, overnight rates rose to 5.5%-6% a year.
