Romania Leu’s Exch Rate Hits New 13-Mo High At 4.0858 Vs Euro

Romania’s leu returned to gains versus the euro in mid trade Wednesday, and the central bank’s reference strengthened to a fresh 13-month high at 4.0858 units, from 4.091 units a day earlier.

Against the US dollar, the leu's indicative won 1.64% on the day at 2.8186 units, the strongest rate since December 2009.

The leu opened down at 4.182/4.185 per euro, from 4.0865/4.088 per euro at Tuesday's closing. It later changed trend and at around GMT1000 the leu traded at 4.085/4.086 to the euro.

On the money market, overnight rates rose modestly to 2.4%-2.9% a year, from 2.2%-2.7% a year Tuesday.
