Romania Must Heal Its Budget In 2010, Fight Recession Next Yr - Ctrl Bker

Romania cannot fight two wars at the same time, in order to both heal the budget and make it out of recession, thus, it should focus on the former this year and leave the economic growth for the next year, a central bank official said Tuesday.

"This year we should focus on curing the budget," said Adrian Vasilescu, advisor to the central bank's governor.

The economy might revive by the end of next year, only on budget adjustments, he added.

Moreover, Romania should fight to attract foreign direct investments, facing competition in this respect from neighbors such as Hungary or Bulgaria, Vasilescu said.
