Voter turnout in Romania’s presidential election was at 7.52% by GMT0800, the Central Electoral Bureau said.

Turnout was of 6.89 % in urban areas and 8.27% in rural areas.

In capital Bucharest, voter turnout by GMT0800 was of 6.44%.

About 18 million Romanian eligible voters are expected to cast ballots Sunday to elect their president for the next five years and will choose between incumbent President Traian Basescu and social democrat Mircea Geoana.

Polls close at GMT1900.
