Romania’s Senate Approves Draft Act Amending Constitutional Court Law

Romania’s Senate adopted on Tuesday with 69 to 41 votes and one abstention the draft act amending Law no. 47/1992 regulating the functioning of the Constitutional Court, the Criminal Procedure Code and the Civil Procedure Code.

The draft act, which eliminates trials' cancellation by default when unconstitutionality exceptions are raised, had been tacitly approved by the Chamber of Deputies.

Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu said during debates on the bill, that the adoption of the draft normative act will significantly speed up trials.
