Romania Should Go Back To Having A Sports Ministry - President

Romanian President Traian Basescu said Wednesday at the decoration ceremony for the country’s Beijing Olympics medalists that a Ministry of Youth and Sports should be recreated, to have sports represented in the government, not just around major events.

The head of state emphasized the Ministry of Youth and Sports should represent the interests of Romanian athletes in government meetings.

Basescu added he regrets that Romania has Olympic champions and former athletes who seem to be less supported by the country when it comes to having access to national or international institutions deciding in the field of sports.
