The first round of local elections this year in Romania will most likely be held on May 25 and the second round on June 8, Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu said Thursday evening.

He said discussions with political parties regarding the date of local elections are still underway.
"Local elections will be held on time, there is no reason to postpone them. Most likely the best dates are may 25 and June 8," Tariceanu said on national television.
