Romania To Send 20 Observers To EU Mission In Georgia - FM

“The surveillance mission is the beginning of a more substantial involvement of the European Union in the situation in Georgia. The European Union proved its growing capacity to take actions as a global actor by launching this operation and by the manner and rapidity with which it acted in the Georgian crisis,” Comanescu said in a statement.

On the backdrop of the coming International Donors Conference for Georgia, Romania will analyze concrete possibilities to participate in the post-conflict reconstruction process, the statement read.

Comanescu reiterated Romania’s proposition to include talks on the relationship between Moldova and EU in the agenda of the Council’s meeting in fall.

The foreign affairs ministers adopted the procedural conclusions on the evaluation report of the European Commission in July 2008 regarding the mechanism on cooperation and verification for Bulgaria and Romania, which reflect the general conclusions of the Commission.
