Romania Unemployment Rate At 5.5% in First Quarter

The unemployment rate in Romania stood at 5.5% in the first quarter of 2017, the same as in the fourth quarter of 2016, the country's statistics board said Tuesday.

The jobless rate stood at 6.3% among men and at 4.4% women

By areas of residence, the jobless rate was 6.4% in rural areas and 4.7% in urban areas.

Youth unemployment, meaning people aged 15 to 24, stood at 20.4%.

In the first quarter of 2017, Romania had an active population of 8.8 million people, of which 481,000 were unemployed.
