Romanian Alleged Influence Peddler Brought In By Authorities

One Bucharest citizen who allegedly promised employment within the Ministry of Interior and other state institutions in exchange for sums of money, was brought into custody and prosecutors requested his preventive arrest under charges of influence peddling.

The man was brought in when the General Anticorruption Department received two denouncements in his name. Two people notified authorities that B.B.C. requested money saying he could ease employment.

One of the denouncers said B.B.C. asked his daughter for a certain amount of money, promising to help her get a job within the Ministry of Interior. The second denouncer, who is a friend of the young woman, confirmed that B.B.C. asked him for money with a promise to perform the same job facilitating services.

According to the General Anticorruption Department, B.B.C. was caught in the act, Thursday, while receiving EUR2,000 from two people.

The man let on that he has connections within the Ministry, and through these connections he could ease the two youths’ employment as customs workers.

Upon searching the man’s residence, investigators found nine folders that contained photocopies of identity deeds, medical charts, affidavits and criminal records from nine different people, from the entire country, whom the man told he would help get jobs within the ministry or other institutions.

B.B.C. was brought into custody by prosecutors within the Bucharest Court. He will appear before the court with a proposition for 29 days preventive arrest, under charges of influence peddling.
