Romanian Anticorruption Department Requests Lifted Immunity, Prosecution Of Former Youth Min

The head of the Romanian National Anticorruption Department on Tuesday called on Romanian general prosecutor Codruta Kovesi to lift the immunity of former Youth Minister Monica Iacob Ridzi, so that she may be investigated in a new case.

In the new case, the former Youth and Sports minister is charged with fraud and abuse of office, according to people close to the matter.

On July 28, 2009, Romania's Parliament approved the anticorruption prosecutors' request to start prosecution against former youth and sports minister Monica Iacob Ridzi, under charges of fund misappropriation.
