Romania's Constitutional Court has postponed the debate on the constitutionality of the Law combining parliamentary and local elections for January 25, in order to learn its financial impact on the Government.

Romanian Constitutional Court Delays Debate On Election Merger Law Until January 25

The law, which says parliamentary and local elections would be held at the same time this year, was adopted through a vote of confidence in the Government on December 15.

A motion of no confidence, filed by the opposition Social-Liberal Union, failed to receive the necessary number of votes. The Union, which argues that the law is unconstitutional and its adoption was abusive, challenged the law before the Constitutional Court.
