Romanian Footballer Contra Gets Suspended Prison Term For Assault

A Timisoara court, western Romania, on Thursday gave footballer Cosmin Contra (Getafe CF) a one year suspended prison term for assaulting a police officer.

The court established Contra beat police officer Adrian Beleiu following a minor car accident in 2006.

The court’s decision punishes “those who behave like hooligans,” Beleiu’s lawyer Florin Kovacs said.

The sentence can be appealed within ten days.
