Romanian liberal deputy Ludovic Orban on Monday informed the Liberal Party's leaders that he has decided to step down from his office, effective February 1, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX.

According to the sources, Orban explained that he no longer wishes to give legitimacy to the current government's undemocratic actions through his presence in the legislature. The sources also say Orban is not the only liberal to have made this decision.

Regardless of the party's opinion, Orban is determined to resign on February 1.
