Antonescu got 986 of liberal delegates' votes, while his rival Ludovic Orban secured 357 votes.
On Friday, the delegates voted in favor of adopting the Party Statute proposed by Antonescu. Under this new statute, the entire party leadership is elected together with the party president. Orban opposed this system and said he supported electing the party's leaders one by one.
Crin Antonescu was the Liberal Party (PNL) candidate in the 2009 Romanian presidential elections. He got 20.02% of votes and did not move on to the runoff.
