Romanian Liberals To Back Social Democrat Geoana In Runoff If They Sign Agreement

Romanian Liberal Party president Crin Antonescu said Tuesday that the party has decided to back social democrat Mircea Geoana in the presidential election runoff, as long as an agreement based on liberal principles is negotiated and signed.

Antonescu added the Liberal Party wants to draw together a Parliament majority to support a Cabinet led by Sibiu mayor Klaus Johannis. He said liberals had talks with the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania on this topic.

The liberal leader said his party's decisions were adopted unanimously, due to the "moral, political and social" crisis in Romania.
