Romanian Parliament Ratifies U.S.-Romanian Antimissile Shield Agreement

Romanian senators on Tuesday unanimously voted to ratify the agreement between the United States and Romania on the deployment of a U.S. ballistic missile defense system in Romania.

The agreement had been previously ratified by the Chamber of Deputies.

Negotiations between Romania and the U.S. on developing the antimissile shield lasted one year and an agreement was signed on September 13 in Washington by Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Baconschi and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
