Basescu had appointed Petre Ninosu judge of the Constitutional Court for a period of nine years. Ninosu died on July 26, 2008.

The judge appointed by Basescu to replace Ninosu will carry out his mandate, valid until June 2010.

Lawyer and professor at the University “Dimitrie Cantemir”, Lazaroiu was elected representative of the civil society in the High Council of Magistrates (CSM), but he resigned on March 27, after the second council meeting he attended.

Lazaroiu was recently validated by the Senate to represent the civil society in CSM, thus replacing professor Avram Filipas, who died in October 2006.

Lazaroiu said in the meeting of the High Council of Magistrates on March 27 he was not aware he did not have the position of a permanent member of CSM, and the indemnities he received were too low compared to the incomes obtained as a lawyer.
