Romanian President Considers Not Running For Second Term

Romanian President Traian Basescu said Thursday on public radio that he is considering not running for a second term this year, adding he has not decided yet.

He added it is not important whether he runs for president again or not, but whether the country can manage to cushion the effects of the financial crisis.

Asked whether he is considering not running for a second term as president, he said yes.

Basescu said repeatedly in recent months that he has not decided whether or not he would run for a second term as president. At one time, he said his candidacy depends on how the effects of the crisis in Romania evolve.
