The Government should take tough measures to tackle the economic crisis and should not take into account whether the president will run in the next presidential elections, Basescu added.

“I don’t want to influence anything, especially since I have no idea whether or not I will run in the next elections,” he said.

“The Government must forget that there are presidential elections in 2009,” Basescu said.
