Romanian Presidential Election Prelim Results At GMT1800: Basescu - 32.43%, Geoana - 31.16%

Romania’s incumbent president Traian Basescu obtained 32.43% of votes in the first round of elections and social democrat candidate Mircea Geoana got 31.16%, according to preliminary results released by the Central Electoral Bureau after counts in 99.81% of polling stations.

Liberal candidate Crin Antonescu got 20.02% of the votes.

Next come far-rightist Corneliu Vadim Tudor (5.55%) and Hungarian minority representative Kelemen Hunor (3.84%).
