Romanian rower Georgeta Andrunache, who won her fifth Olympic medal Saturday, joined gymnast Nadia Comaneci and rower Elisabeta Lipa at the top of the chart of Romanian athletes with the most medals in Olympic Games.

Romanian Rower Andrunache Now Holds Five Olympic Gold Medals

Georgeta Andrunache, aged 32, holds five Olympic titles, two in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, two in the 2004 Games in Athens and one in the 2008 Games in Beijing, obtained alongside Viorica Susanu, in the women’s pair final at the Shunyi Rowing and Canoeing Park. Starting tomorrow, Andrunache has the chance to become the Romanian athlete with the most gold medals in Olympic Games,if the Romanian 8+1 crew, a favorite in the finals, maintains its title.

The Romanian rower has an impressive record, which contains another 11 medals in World Championships, five gold medals (Seville 2002, Lucerne 2001, Saint Catharines 1999, Köln 1998, Lac d'Aiguebellette 1997), 4 silver (Munich 2007, Milan 2003, Lucerne 2001, Lac d'Aiguebellette) and two bronze (Munich 2007 and Milan 2003).
